Apple Watch support (iOS 9 and watchOS 2 required).
Fixed issues with average values in the player statistic view. In the Strokes by Course section, each course variant now contains 2 lines of values: The first line contains only values from rounds with all holes counted (no X scores). The second line (if applicable) contains values of all rounds (even those with X scores).
Several minor improvements and bug fixes.
v7.0.1 (6/8/2015)
Fixed an issue with GPS measurements in Analytic rounds.
On-The-Go rounds now always use the measurement unit of the current device when setting a drive length.
v7.0 (5/21/2015)
Automatic search for nearby golf courses when creating a new Round. If found, the nearby course is displayed in the „New Round“ view at top of the list of available golf courses.
New Tab Bag where the user can edit the clubs in his/her bag (until now, Birdie worked with a fixed selection of clubs in the player’s bag).
Paid Green Fee Statistics: Option to enter paid green fee in Round Settings view. The entered green fee is summarized and displayed in the Player Statistics (total and per course).
Extended Player Statistics: Strokes per Par now also shows the count of Eagles, Birdies, Pars and Bogeys.
Added Edge Swipe gestures (go to next/previous hole) in Score view (iOS 8 and later).
When changing a player’s data (HCP and played tee) in the Round Info view, the user can now decide if the changes are valid for the edited round only or saved permanently for the player (iOS 8 and later).
Player statistics now can include data from courses with other hole count than 18 or 9.
Pebble watch GPS mode works now also in background.
Fixed a GPS problem on iOS 8.
Fixed a problem with picking a player from the address book on iOS 8.
Several minor iOS 8 optimizations.
Fixed a problem with the Rangefinder, when the course data doesn’t contain any GPS data.

Fixed a crash when trying to send a scorecard as CSV.
Fixed an issue on scorecard (Sand & Save).
v6.0 (4/6/2014)
iOS7 native user interface Still runs with old UI on iOS5.1 and iOS6 devices.
Integration with Pebble Smart Watches
If you own a Pebble Watch, you can switch on Pebble support in the new “Settings” tab.
When starting a round on a course, containing GPS data, the Pebble will show the distance to the green (end, center, begin of green).
Use the Pebble's Up/Down keys to switch to the next/previous hole.
This feature also works when the iPhone is put to sleep.
Auto Pause feature for longer battery life. By default, the GPS receiver switches off after 30 seconds to save battery time. The Pebble then shows ”Pause“. Switching to anther hole or pressing the middle button restarts the GPS receiver (for another 30 seconds). The 30second timeout is configurable on the Settings tab. (Off, 30sec, 1min, 5min).
On the Rounds view, Rounds are now automatically organized in “Seasons” The begin of a season (month) is configurable in the Settings tab.
The default is January (northern hemisphere) resp. July (southern hemisphere).
It's now possible to switch the course variant during a round Birdie automatically determines which course variants are valid and displays a list at the end of the Round Settings view.
Switching to a specific course variant is only possible, if the variant has at least one hole in common with the original course variant and if no scored hole will be deleted by the switch (e.g. it's not possible to switch to the “Front 9” variant of a course, if there are already scores in one of the back 9 holes).
Switching the course variant is only possible if the round is not marked as "completed".
Added “Water Hazard” switch in Analytic Rounds
New option Count unfinished holes in the Settings tab Unfinished holes (“X”) used to be ignored when calculating the stroke sum on scorecards (besides setting the score sum in braces “()”). If an unfinished hole is present and this option switched on, Birdie adds PAR+2 strokes to the score sum (PAR brutto+2 or PAR netto+2, whichever is more). That way, the score sum represents much more the player’s score when unfinished holes are present than before.
This option is switched on by default.
Additional Match Play options New Options: 1/2 Netto, 3/8 Netto, 7/8 Netto (each with and without CR). Set the Match Play option on the Settings tab.
New “Settings” tab Moved the Birdie settings from the iOS Settings App to Birdie itself.
“Normal Rounds” and “Practice Rounds” are not differentiated anymore The “Practice Round” button was removed. Tapping “Start Round” always starts a (former known as) “Practice Round”.
64-bit build for iPhone 5s and newer devices
Switched to most recent Dropbox-Framework
Switched to most recent Facebook-Framework
Several smaller bug fixes
v5.0 (07/17/2013)
Analytic Rounds
New rounds with exactly one player in the flight can be started as "Analytic Round". In this mode each hole provides a way to enter extensive data on each stroke, including used club, (GPS-) distance, type of approach (chip, pitch, etc) and more.
The scorecards of Analytic Rounds provide improved round analysis and statistics ("AGAPS" analysis, Stroke distance statistics)
When sending a scorecard of an Analytic Round via mail (and strokes where entered with GPS info), a KML file is automatically generated and attached to the mail. This KML file can then be opened in GoogleEarth (or other compatible Geobrowsers).
It's possible to display scorecards of Analytic Rounds either as regular Analytic Rounds or as standardized "AGAPS Rounds". AGAPS is a special method for analyzing round performance, developed by Oliver Heuler from the Golfakademie GC Fleesensee. There are several additional rules in effect when calculating the round statistics in AGAPS mode. E.g. Putts are only counted on holes played with GIR, GIR statistics are calculated different (Under GIR counts as 2 Points, GIR as 1 and "more than 1 stroke over GIR" as -1 point) and more.
To switch AGAPS mode on, go to the scorecard settings and scroll down to the "AGAPS Analysis" switch. On German devices, AGAPS mode is switched on by default.
Regular display means, that all columns (except the Approach column) are displayed and calculated the same way as in regular (Practice) rounds.
When sending a scorecard of an analytic round, a text file with the detailed protocol of each recorded stroke is automatically attached to the mail.
Additional option Satellite View in the "Send Scorecard"-Chooser when the scorecard is for an Analytic Round and GPS data for the strokes is available. This option presents a preview of the gathered GPS data in a satellite view (same data as available in the KML-File which is automatically attached to the scorecard when sending it via e-Mail).
Player Statistics now contain an extra Analytic Rounds section (if Analytic Rounds are available in the selected time frame). If all courses are displayed (the default), the Analytic Rounds section displays the average Analytic Round values of all gathered data per Course (and a total average for all analytic rounds). If the Player Statistic is filtered for a specific course, the Analytic Rounds section displays the Analytic Round values for each round separately (and a total average for all analytic rounds on this course).
Analytic Rounds are marked with the word "Analytic" in the Round List view
Analytic Round mode is an optional new feature in Birdie, available as an In App Purchase (iOS 5.1 or newer required).
Reading Glasses On the counter view, tap and hold on one of the counter switches, after one second, Birdie opens a full screen view with the most important scores of the tapped player. The font for the display is as big as possible which should help users to read the values without their reading glasses :)
The full screen view closes automatically when the tap ends.
The Reading Glasses View displays up to 4 Score values. The displayed values are the same as the score values below the counter switch. These values are the first 4 columns of the scorecard (i.e. you can change/reorder these values in the scorecard settings).
Facebook & Twitter integration
Post Scorecards on Facebook and Twitter
See new "Social" tab for more options:
- "Tell a friend" feature
- Automatic post on Facebook/Twitter when scoring a Birdie
- Automatic post on Facebook/Twitter when finishing a round
Swipe left or right in the empty area on the counter view below the counter switches to switch to the next/previous hole
Additional Time Filter "Last Year" on Player Statistics.
Additional Rule for calculating Match Play Handicap: 3/4 Netto (with and without CR)
Added an additional field for the player's Golf Association membership number in the Player Info view. If a Membership number is entered, it's also displayed in the player list view and on scorecards.
Additional field "Home Club" in the Player Info view. The home club is currently used to calculate "played rounds" in the player statistics.
Unused (practice round) columns are automatically hidden on scorecards.
Birdie remembers the last chosen club in the club chooser (Practice Round and Analytic Round mode).
Switched to new Dropbox SDK Birdie Backup data is now saved in a dedicated Birdie folder in your Dropbox's "Apps" folder. To get access to your previously created Birdie backup files, you might want to move these backup files form their old location (the "Birdie" folder in your Dropbox's root folder) to the new "Apps/Birdie" folder.
Backups on the Dropbox-Restore view are ordered "newer" to "older"
Fixed a sizing problem with the Hole-Info-View on iPhone 5.
Practice Rounds: On Par-3 holes, the Fairway-Hit switch is disabled and the Scorecard column "Fwy" automatically shows "-".
Fixed: Setting the Penalty-Switch back to "0" didn't reset the Penalty completely (i.e. a "0" was shown in the scorecard).
Cleaned up the "Send Scorecard" menu.
Fixed several memory management related crashes.
v4.1 (10/24/2012)
Additional Driver Statistic on scorecard and Player Statistics. To see driver statistics on a scorecard, you want to enable the 'Club' column in the Scorecard Settings view.
Additional 7-Wood club in Drivers menu.
Switched to the new DropBox SDK.
Available DropBox backups are now displayed ordered by date.
Support for iPhone 5's big screen.
Fixed device rotation issues on iOS6.
Fixed several display issues on iOS6
Switched to Apple's most recent Objective-C compiler. Apple removed support for older devices from its development tools. In order to support new devices (like the iPhone 5) and new versions of iOS (like iOS 6) the use of the newest development tools (which have dropped support for older iOS devices) is mandatory. Thus, starting with v4.1, the minimum system requirement for running Birdie is iOS 4.3 or newer.
So if you still use Birdie on an original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 1st or 2nd Gen, please don't try to install this update!.
v4.0.2 (04/28/2012)
Fixed an issue with HCP preview and CBA.
If auto course updates is enabled, users can manually search for updates by entering "Edit" mode on the Courses tab and then tapping on "Search for Updates".
Fixed a problem with the refresh of round summaries on the Rounds tab.
Fixed an incompatibility when running Birdie on an iPad.
Fixed several other minor bugs.
v4.0.1 (04/06/2012)
Support for CBA.
According to EGA Golf rules, the CSA (Computed Stableford Adjustment) in tournaments is history since 1.1.2012. It's replaced by the CBA (Computed Buffer Adjustment). The CBA doesn't touch the player's Stableford results, but instead adjusts the buffer zone. Birdie now shows a CBA selector in the game settings (instead of the CSA selector) when the game date is in 2012 or later. Games with a game date before 2012 still show (and calculate) the CSA.
Birdie is now much more robust when starting/viewing a round with invalid/incomplete course data.
Courses downloaded from ushandicap.com are now marked in the course info view with a "ushandicap.com" suffix behind the course name.
When importing course data from ushandicap.com the data is now validated before inserting it into Birdie's course list. If the course data doesn't contain any valid courses, a warning is shown.
When already imported course data from ushandicap.com doesn't contain any valid variant data, the course cannot be selected to create a new round.
Fixed a problem with the automatic backups.
Fixed a problem on devices running iOS 4.x or older. This issue caused Birdie crashing when creating a new round.
v4.0 (03/22/2012)
New Tab Share Scores. With this feature, it's possible to send played rounds to other Birdie users via WLAN or Bluetooth connection. The transmitted rounds are fully integrated in Birdie on the receiver's side, including player statistics etc.
Scorecards now show an additional Round Statistics table, listing the number of Birdies, Pars, Bogeys, GIR, Average GIR Putts, etc. The Round Statistics table can be switched off in the Scorecard Preferences (default is "on").
Additional Statistics in Player Statistics:
- Fairway hits
- GIR
- Average GIR Putts
Support for GPS data from the Online Course Editor in the GPS range finder view:
GPS data from the Online Course Editor can contain much more detailed data on a course: In addition of the green position, it may contain information about the tee positions and up to 10 "points of interest" like bunkers, water hazards etc.
These positions are now displayed in a scrollable list on the GPS range finder view, each with its current distance from the player.
By tapping on one of the positions in the list, the range finder switches to a Google maps view, showing the satellite image of the hole, the positions of the green, the tees, all points of interest and the current position of the user. Also the distance between the user and the selected position is shown. The distance display can be switched to another point by taping on it's icon in the map. (Only available on devices running iOS 4.0 or newer with active internet connection.)
To switch back to the GPS range finder list view, tap on the button with the GPS icon (the compass arrow shape) again.
New separate views for Course Maps and Range finder:
Course Maps (graphics from a club's birdie book) are now displayed in a separate view, marked with an eye icon (as it was before the introduction of the GPS range finder). This view and the eye button are only displayed if course maps are available for a course.
The GPS range finder has now it's own view, separate from the course maps view. The button for this view has a GPS icon (the standard compass arrow shape). The GPS range finder view and button are always displayed, even if no GPS data is available for a course. In the latter case, the GPS range finder view can be used to create new GPS data for a course (as it was before). This data is then automatically synched to the Birdie Course Database later (this is new in v4.0).
Backups can be restored from Dropbox directly on the device.
New options for match play rules:
- Brutto
- Netto, no CR
- Netto, with CR
- 2/3 Netto, no CR
- 2/3 Netto, with CR The "with CR" options calculate the players' handicaps including the course's course rating (CR/SR). The "no CR" options (and the Brutto option, of course), ignore the course rating when calculating the match play handicap.
The Match Play Rule settings are part of the Settings app. Open the Settings app on your iPhone and open the "Birdie" settings to view/change these settings.
New column "MHcp" on scorecards (Match play Handicap). This column shows the handicap strokes for calculating the match play results. These values can differ from the "CHcp" column (Course Handicap), used for calculating Stableford (and other Netto) results.
The MHcp column is calculated according to the Match play rule settings in the Settings app.
In Player Statistics it's now possible to filter the statistics for a specific course.
New switch in "Round Info" view: Use in statistics This switch is automatically switched to "On" for completed rounds (all holes counted). The user can manually switch this option off (or on, in case of incomplete rounds). Only rounds with this switch set to "on" are used for the player's statistics ("Players" > "Info" > "Statistics").
It's now possible to add players to a round in progress. To do so, open the Round Edit view (tap blue arrow button next to a Round in the Rounds view to switch to the Round Edit view) and tap "Add Players" at the end of the players list. This works only on incomplete rounds (switch the "Completed" switch to "off").
You can now also remove players from a round. In the Round Edit view (tap blue arrow button next to a Round in the Rounds view to switch to the Round Edit view), either tap on a player and then tap on "Remove from Round" at the end of the following view, or swipe the player's name directly in the Round Edit view (normal iOS delete gesture). This works only on incomplete rounds (switch the "Completed" switch to "off").
The "Rounds" view now shows the duration of the rounds. The duration is automatically calculated from creating a new round to the moment, the last hole is counted. Already existing rounds (and incomplet rounds) don't have an automatically assigned duration. However, it's possible to manually set or change a round's duration in the Round Info view (tap the blue arrow button next to a round to show the Round Info view).
Better display of round details in the 'Rounds' list. In addition to the date and duration of the round, the players in the flight (including their scores) are displayed. The player names are automatically shortened to their initials (if applicable). For each player the gross score and the stableford points are displayed. (Only on devices running iOS 4 or newer).
Automatic search for course data updates. On first launch of this version of Birdie, the user is asked to enable automatic course updates.
If auto course update is enabled,...
Birdie checks on startup (at least all 6 hours) if updated course data is available. If yes, the courses with available updates are marked in the Courses view.
When opening the Course Info view (tapping on a course in the Courses view) an additional section "Course Update avvailable" with a button "Download now" is displayed if a course update is available. Tapping this button will download the available course update.
When entering Edit mode on the Courses view (tapping the "Edit" button), the button formerly called "Check for Course Updates" is now called "Load all Updates" and does exactly that. Manually searching for Updates isn't supported when auto course updates are enabled.
When entering gps data, this data is automatically synchronized with Birdie's course server. Other users then get access to this gps data.
In a training round, the GPS drive length feature is now aware of available GPS data for the tees. If such data is available, tapping on the "Set drive length by GPS" button (the button with the GPS/compass arrow icon), directly measures the distance from the players tee to the current position. If no GPS information on the players tee is available, the procedure works as before, i.e. the first tap on the button sets the starting point of the measurement ("the tee position") and the second tap sets the end position of the measurement ("the ball position").
Crash detection: In case Birdie crashes, at next launch the user gets the option to send a crash report to Pleasant Software. There's also an option to send a "full report", containing also a backup of the whole database (which might be not only helpful for finding/fixing a bug, but also to recover data from the database).
When setting gps data for a hole (gps range finder), the data is automatically copied to the same hole in other variants.
More reliable transfer of user defined data (like gps data and user notes) when updating course data.
Birdie now automatically creates a local database backup before doing a database update. In case something goes wrong, the user has then the additional option to send this backup to Pleasant Software (or to any other email address) in order to fix the problem and/or restore the database.
Updated Dropbox-APIs for iOS5 compatibility.
Fixed a crash when a round doesn't contain a round date (legacy support).
Fixed minor display glitches on iOS 5 and newer.
Fixed dozens of minor bugs and memory glitches.

Fixed the hole HCP order (S.I.) for some special cases on 9 hole variants.
Fixed a bug concerning match play. Birdie now use the same algorithm to calculate the "Won" column on scorecards and the "Won" totals.
v3.0.2 (03/22/2011)
The last version crashed on several user's devices. It turned out, that this was caused by a buggy version of Apple's developer tools.
This version was built again with an older version of Apple's developer tools. This should solve the crashing issues.
v3.0.1 (03/16/2011)
fixed a bug which prevented Birdie from saving GPS data on some courses
fixed a bug with action sheets when running on an iPad
v3.0 (03/09/2011):
Birdie now sports a GPS range finder! If a course has course maps, the GPS range data is overlaid directly on the map. On Courses without map graphics Birdie now also shows the "Eye" button on the counter view. Tapping this button in this case displays a generic range finder graphic (and the GPS range finder data, of course...).
In order to use the GPS range finder, each hole on a course once needs to be calibrated by the user. In order to do so, tap the "Gear" button on the range finder view.
Saved rounds are now automatically marked as "Completed", when all holes are counted and the round is at least 12 hours old. Completed rounds are "read-only", i.e. when opening such a round, Birdie displays only the scorecard (and not the counter view). Completed rounds can be manually unlocked (removing the read-only flag) in the Round Settings view (the one Birdie displays when the user taps the blue arrow button next to a round in the "Rounds" list).
Support for printing scorecards on iOS 4.2 and later.

E-Mails are now send from within Birdie (no need to switch to Mail.app anymore)
Overhauled Birdie's internal database system. Should be now much more stable.
Birdie is now able to calculate players' USGA handicap index according to USGA rules. This is an opt-in feature. To enable this feature, switch "USGA HCP Handling" on in Birdie's new system preferences (in Settings.app). Please note, that the calculated USGA handicaps are for informational use only and aren't intended to replace an official USGA handicap!
Fixed a bug concerning setting the Drive Length on a course map.
The blue arrow buttons in tables are now much easier to target.
Switched to iPhone 3.0 SDK. Birdie now requires iPhone OS 3.1.2 or newer. This solves a lot of issues which came with older SKDs and also enables Birdie to use techniques like In-App-Mail-Services and more.

Uncompleted holes are now marked with "X" instead "--" in score cards.
In score cards for games with more than one player, the score of a player is now automatically set to "X" if no score is set for this player and at least one other player has a score.
When at least one score is "X" (uncompleted hole), a the sums of "Sco" and "Net" columns on a player's score card are marked as "invalid" (displayed in braces). A "X" doesn't change Sco or Net besides marking it as invalid.
0 Stableford points are now displayed as "-" instead of "0"
Changed the character for "won hole" from "x" to "✓" in the "Won" column on score cards.
An uncompleted hole can be manually set to "X" by switching the counter switch to "-" once on unchanged counters (i.e. it's not necessary to count on stroke up and then down again to 0, as before).
The Counter on the counter view is now displayed on the left side for better usability.
The range finder is now aware of the iPhone's current orientation.

v1.1 (08/05/08):
French localization added (thanks to Robert P. Olbrechts).
Option to manually set a player's course handicap (overwrites the automatic course handicap calculation for the player). This also comes handy in On-The-Go games where no automatic course handicap calculation is available. To set a player's course handicap manually, click the blue arrow button on the right side of a selected player when creating a new game. Switch "Automatic Handicap" to "off" and set the manual course handicap.
Option to create an On-The-Go game based on a previously saved On-The-Go game. This copies the par and hcp data from the old game to the new. To copy data from another On-The-Go game, click the blue arrow button on the "On-The-Go" entry when creating a new Game ("+" on the "Games" view). If there is no blue arrow button, Birdie didn't find any previously saved On-The-Go games.
Entries in the "Games" view now also display the create time (not only the date)
Improved results sorting when searching for course data. Foreign courses are always sorted behind domestic courses.
Birdie now also displays the country in search results.
Fixed a bug causing the display of the wrong country in a course's address field.
Fixed a bug causing ambiguous game names in some circumstances.
Birdie can now display more colors. "Green" added plus "Ladie" variants for all 7 available display colors.
Improved game score card: When automatic course handicap calculation is enabled, the player's handicap index is displayed next to his/her name in the table header.
Improved game score card: Birdie now calculates a sum for the "Stb" column.
Improved game score card: Birdie now always calculats results for 18 holes on 9 hole courses which solves problems with handicap calculations. The second 9 holes are calculated automatically with 2 Stableford points/hole.
Several minor bug fixes. Improved stability in low memory situations.
